Video: Movie Club, ‘Bones’

Words, who needs ’em?

L.A. duo Movie Club certainly doesn’t, or any modern production tricks, either. Today, guitarist Vince Cuneo and drummer Jessamyn Violet release “Man O’ War,” their third EP in the past 13 months — four tight, quick-hitting songs that roil and simmer and leave listeners to provide their own context. Bassist Tim Lefebvre (David Bowie, Elvis Costello, the Black Crowes, Empire of the Sun) joins in on this one, which feels like a quick tip of the cap to a lot of legendary heavy psych-rock bands.

The weird, wonderful video for the lead track “Bones,” filmed at an abandoned water park in the desert, is the work of director of photography Dustin Downing. It features the same mysterious white wolves who bedevil Cuneo and Violet on Venice Beach in the video for “Moonbow.” They play out like episodes in a strange caper flick, the resolution of which has not yet been revealed.

Riff along.
