Matador Records today announced the 25th-anniversary vinyl reissue of Guided by Voices’ 1995 album “Alien Lanes,” a 28-track, 41-minute beast. If you’re still buzzing from their New Year’s Even show in L.A. (who, us?), here’s what Robert Pollard writes about “Alien Lanes.” Plus, Matador has posted to YouTube a newly rendered version of the 1996 GBV documentary “Watch Me Jumpstart,” directed by Banks Tarver. (Postscript for reissue fans: Pavement’s “Wowee Zowee” and Yo La Tengo’s “Electr-O-Pura” are also forthcoming from Matador as part of their “Revisionist History” series.)

The 1933 Group, owner of 11 establishments including Highland Park Bowl, both Bigfoot Lodges, the Sassafras Saloon and the Thirsty Crow, is taking a novel approach to fundraising: They’re selling “bonds.” Essentially gift certificates, the bonds are worth $100 in future purchases, and they’re being sold at a discount for $80. DoLA— the popular website and email newsletter that’s a virtual city guide to all things music, arts and culture — is soliciting donations for its staff. Like many outlets who depend on marketing dollars (including this site), DoLA’s revenue has plummeted to zero because of the lockdown. Their plea is simple: help us stay in business.
