If the coronavirus could be “rocked” into submission, we’d nominate Ramonda Hammer to lead the musical assault. With their single “Big Hands” just out, Devin Davis tells Buzz Bands LA’s QUARANTUNES how much she misses hugging and loves crossword puzzles. Oh, and in honor of that single, there’s an “all-hands” playlist.

THE LATEST FROM RAMONDA HAMMER

It’s probably folly to think heat and sunlight will kill the coronavirus, so how about blasting it with Ramonda Hammer’s new single “Big Hands?” The L.A. quartet — Devin Davis, Justin Geter, Andy Hengl and Mark Edwards — unleashed its new leviathan last week, their first new music since last summer’s sophomore album “I Never Wanted Company.” Ramonda Hammer doesn’t do anything half-assed — as the gritty, brash and dark grunge on their two albums and one EP testifies — and in this case, that also applies to saying you’re sorry. “I wrote ‘Big Hands’ during a time when I thought I was losing the love of my life. It’s a desperate apology,” Davis says of the track, which was produced by Illuminati Hotties’ Sarah Tudzin. “But it’s the kind of apology where you can’t find the words to say you’re sorry, so you make an offering, a token of affection that can’t undo what’s been done but it’s the best you can do at the time. The song repeats several times: ‘it’s the thought that counts,’ and thoughtfulness has to mean something right? It’s about working on emotional intelligence. Not condoning bad behavior, but it’s pointing out all the good that comes with the bad.”

Ramonda Hammer is doing a Patreon show on Friday, May 8, with Taleen Kali and Night Dreamer. Info here.

HOW ARE YOU HOLDING UP AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MANAGE THE ‘STAY AT HOME’ EDICT?

Devin Davis: I’m doing alright, some days are better than others. I love to cook so now I have way more time to make all the fancy stuff I like. I also rearrange the apartment every week for variety, and I’ve taken up crossword puzzles because crossword puzzles are lit.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO WHEN THIS IS OVER?

Devin Davis: I cannot WAIT to hug my bandmates and finish recording our new songs.

ANYTHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS PLAYLIST?

Devin Davis:  In the spirit of our new single, the theme of this eclectic playlist is songs that feature hands as imagery. Yes, our song “Big Hands” is the last track. Enjoy!
