Remember the crisis one or two before our current pandemic? Asylum seekers (and how they are treated) at the southern border of the U.S.?

The new single from Cold War Kids, “1 x 1,” draws a parallel. “This song was inspired by the stories of child migrants separated from their families at the border,” Cold War Kids frontman Nathan Willett says. “Now that we are all quarantined, it has taken on an extra meaning … One by one, each of us are staying apart to help the whole of us.”

The hymn-like tune, co-written by OneRepublic’s Brent Kutzle, features Willett trading vocal duties with Wesley Schultz of the Lumineers.
