Quarantunes: A playlist by Low Hum

With touring, surfing and hiking on hold, Collin Desha has his nose to the grindstone working on his second album as Low Hum. In today’s editions of Buzz Bands LA’s QUARANTUNES, he counts his blessings and offers some musical reasons to feel good.
THE LATEST FROM LOW HUM
After toiling on his solo project for two-plus years, Collin Desha released his solo album as Low Hum last summer. “Room to Breathe,” highlighted by the electric single “Strange Love” (and its trippy animated video), is a fully immersive psych-rock record — and not the kind that leaves you comfortably numb. With 2020 touring plans in disarray, Desha is mostly quarantining in the studio, already well in to making album No. 2.
HOW ARE YOU HOLDING UP AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MANAGE THE ‘STAY AT HOME’ EDICT?
The first few weeks were actually pretty good for me. I definitely was feeling the stress of news coming at us every day, so I tried to take that time to work on myself and start weekly routines. By Week 3, though, it was very apparent that I am a human being that thrives on social contact, so I started getting pretty restless to see people. Luckily, I had studio time on the schedule, and was able to still go in and start working on my next record. (Safely!) Since then, I’ve been feeling very fortunate that I had this great outlet to take my mind off it.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO WHEN THIS IS OVER?
I think every artist who loves touring is anxious to get back on the road. I sure am. We had to cancel all our shows, so I’ll be pumped to finally play again. I had spent about two to three months working on a new live set, which I can’t wait to get back into. Outside of that, I miss nature. Definitely gonna spend time surfing and hiking ASAP.
ANYTHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS PLAYLIST?
I think the first song (The Carter Family Band, “Keep On The Sunny Side”) is my current life song. I saw Micah Nelson perform it on his IG and it was brilliant. I’ve always loved that song and to me it’s essentially perfect. It’s about as American as you can get. The rest of it just makes me feel good and hope it does for everyone out there, too.
