There are two kinds of escape — the physical act of leaving one place for another and the mental getaway that hits the refresh button. Low Hum’s new single “Escape” has them both covered.

The single, a playfully woozy yet decidedly immersive psych-rock jam, is the first new music from Low Hum mastermind Collin Desha since 2019’s debut album “Room to Breathe,” which has not only grown the project’s following but earned a lot of RIYLs with the like of Tame Impala. “Escape,” co-written with Andrew Heringer (ex-Milo Greene), also teases the forthcoming album, “Nonfiction,” which Desha made with co-producer Jon Joseph.

The video, directed by Bianca Poletti, stars John Hein, Nikki Cano, Samuel Henson and Laurel Ann Robinson, who are either escaping or dancing as a manner of getting away. “I’ve always been intrigued by stories about runaways and really enjoy playing with the line between reality and imagination,” the director says. “‘Escape’ inspired me to explore shedding layers of your past self with the intention of rebuilding, and the dream of a new beginning.”
