Lightning in a Bottle festival goes ‘DGTL’

Just as it was settling in and getting comfortable in its new home at the Buena Vista Recreation Area, Lightning in a Bottle is shifting gears and moving again– this time to pandemic-friendly Twitch TV and rebranding as “DGTL LIB.” The first lineup announcement comes just in time ahead of the originally scheduled Memorial Day weekend festivities from May 22-24.

Kaytranada, Glitch Mob, Four Tet, CloZee, Shiba San, TOKiMONSTA, Beats Antique, Autograf, Subsuelo, Mr. Carmack, Opiuo, Justin Jay, Funk Hunters, Rinzen, Monolink, Dirtwire, Elephant Heart and Patricio are among the artists set to perform live on various stages re-created within an immersive digital game environment by Vita Motus Design Studio.

“For the first time ever, a branded festival environment has been re-created in a gaming engine to be used for live broadcast,” said Vita Motus Design Studio CEO Heather Shaw. “We at Vita Motus think that Lightning in a Bottle is an ideal environment to showcase our real-time rendering capabilities because of its completely unique architecture, iconic design and immersive content.”

“Here at Do LaB, we’ve always been forward-thinking and our longtime partnership with Vita Motus has helped us bring our insane visions to life,” said Do LaB president Jesse Flemming. “We are excited to be pushing the envelope with them again, but this time in the digital world.”

Quarantine-friendly educational and wellness workshops (i.e., Aphrodisiac Chocolates and Kundalini yoga) will also be in rotation. In addition, vaudevillian performers Frontierville of The Grand Artique, the Jive Joint and the Fungineers will make appearances to dazzle audience members out of their lockdown daze.
