Missing house parties, anybody?
As they hinted last week, brother duo Mating Ritual rolled out plans today for a new album. “The Bungalow,” arriving Aug. 21, will be the fourth album in four years from siblings Ryan Marshall Lawhon and Taylor Lawhon. Back in 2017, prior to releasing the first, they set a goal of releasing five in five years, a rare feat for contemporary artists.
On the album’s title track, out today, the Lawhons see-saw back to their pop side — “The Bungalow” is a light-hearted disco track that makes all the sense in the world if you know Los Angeles geography. “[It’s] very tongue-in-cheek song about loving Eastside L.A., and kind-of-literally, our house and studio we record at,” Ryan Lawhon says. “We enjoy throwing parties here and have very specific tastes, and this song is kind of poking fun at that”
