Oh, how we miss our houses of music.

L.A. instrumental rock duo Movie Club and videographer Dustin Downing pay tribute to eight of them in the video for “Driftwood,” from Movie Club’s latest EP “Man O’ War.”

Guitarist Vince Cuneo and drummer Jessamyn Violet set up their equipment right in front of the venues — the Greek Theatre, Amoeba Records, the Troubadour, the Palladium, the Wiltern, the Roxy, the Bootleg Theater and the Mint — while Downing mixes wide-angle and drone footage on a spectacularly sunny L.A. day. With the pandemic shuttering the venues, the video is something of a snapshot in time … a time that music fans can’t wait to pass.

“These venues are museums of vibe,” the duo says. “For musicians, aspiring to play these stages is one of our main inspirations. We have to preserve this kind of history, and do what we can to help the venues stick around and keep showcasing great music.”

Besides the venues, the video features a cameo that Movie Club says was “serendipitous.” Fresh off his starring role in the recent video by The Know, 69-year-old Howard Mordoh (aka LA Rocker, aka Howard the Dancing Man or just The Dancing Man) pops by while Movie Club is in front of the Troubadour to bust some moves.
