If there’s one 2020 release that merits dancing in the streets, it’s “Alphabetland,” the first album in 35 years from the original lineup of X, which was surprise-released in April.
And without getting John Doe, Exene Cervenka, Billy Zoom and DJ Bonebrake all together in one place, the video for the title track does just that. Members of the Skating Polly and Starcrawler stand in for the L.A. legends in director Gilbert Trejo’s clip.
Trejo, who has done videos for Starcrawler, DIIV, Chelsea Wolfe, SoKo, the Pixies, Nick Waterhouse and Palm Springsteen, among others (and who has a feature film “From a Son” on the way this year), does a masterful job of creating a fever dream that feels like a highlight reel of memories crammed into three minutes.
The physical release of “Alphabetland,” which includes some special vinyl versions, is Aug. 22.
