While pop stars everywhere are still writing mostly about themselves, or parts thereof, the queen bee of wacky insurgence, Jesika von Rabbit, has less narcissistic or prurient things on her mind.
Like how “the world is chaos,” the Joshua Tree singer-songwriter pronounces on her new single “Who the Hell Knows.” Inhabiting the song’s simple melody are von Rabbit’s deep-seated frustrations with the pandemic, economic disparity and the onslaught of media she suggests you turn off before you drown in it.
For her part, the former Gram Rabbit frontwoman always has bunnies to dance with. The video, the work of SHOaded Media Group, finds von Rabbit in vivid colors in the bright desert sun, in step with dancers Lani Elizabeth Johnson and Erin Gurule. “Breathe, relax, enjoy your own surrounding,” she advises, and letting the imagination run wild never hurts.
