Girlpuppy is the nom de tune of 21-year-old Becca Harvey of Atlanta, whose first two volleys of dreamy folk-pop serve as bookends for a relationship. That’s not lost on her.

“It’s ironic that my first song was a love song, and this is a breakup song,” she says of her new single “Cheerleader.” “And they’re both about the same person. I wrote this about how I just want my dog back from my ex.”

Time to sic an enforcer on that boy. In the meantime, she’s using her creamy vocals to relay the confusion and heartache about being relegated to the sidelines. “Cheerleader” was co-written with Marshall Vore (a collaborator of Phoebe Bridgers and Christian Lee Hutson, among others) and Ruby Henley (who plays synth) and features Charlie Hickey on guitar, bass, piano and backing vocals.

Both singles, produced by Vore, will appear on Girlpuppy’s forthcoming EP.
