THE LATEST FROM MATT COSTA

Matt Costa on Friday releases his sixth volume of songs, “Yellow Coat,” a masterclass on the inherent bittersweet nature of love set to his timeless-sounding folk-pop music. His second album for Dangerbird Records, “Yellow Coat” navigates the treacherous emotional territory of a relationship’s end and the possibilities freedom holds. With his typically painterly lyrics and the warm, vintage-radio vibe dusted on the songs by producer Alex Newport, Costa has made an album that goes beyond the misty memories of a diarist.

HOW ARE YOU HOLDING UP AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MANAGE THE ‘STAY AT HOME’ EDICT?

I’ve been busy making videos with Minh Pham for “Yellow Coat.” I converted a spare bedroom into a soundstage. Stop frame, green screen, miniatures and mobiles have all been conducive to limited space and resources.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO WHEN THIS IS OVER?

I’m looking forward to seeing my loved ones without being afraid of spreading a harmful disease and continued social justice.

ANYTHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS PLAYLIST?

These songs are early influences, friends and artists that have changed my life for the better.
