L.A. trio WILD make folk-pop that’s always good for the disposition, so maybe last week’s news from Lauren Luiz, Tyler Thompson and Zach DeGaetano offers a special ray of sunshine during an otherwise dark time.
WILD will release their debut album “Goin’ Back” on Jan. 15 via Nettwerk. “‘Goin’ Back’ is something we’ve been working towards for a long time,” the band says. “We feel it embodies everything we stand for as a band and shows all our growth throughout the years.”
Those qualities, as exemplified on their EPs and singles going back to 2015, include a rosy-cheeked exuberance and sanguine honesty. Their new single “Friend Like You” is candy, all harmonies and handclaps. “There’s a lot of nods to our longest, closest friends in here … ‘you got my back since ’92,’ ‘ride or die,’ ‘made up our own language,’” the trio says. “Simply, it’s just about friends that you can always count on and will be there for you no matter how long it’s been since you’ve seen them last. We need our ride or die crew more than ever.”
WILD explains that most of the songs on “Goin’ Back” were birthed on a trip to Nashville. The album was recorded in L.A., however. “We make ‘L.A. Folk,’ they says. “If you go to Oregon, Tennessee or Texas, the genre sounds different. This is what folk would sound like in Los Angeles because of the production and the hooks.”
