Singer-songwriter Georgia Hurd collaborated with her brother Zach both on his early solo work and his L.A. project Bay Ledges. But she didn’t release her first solo single until last year, when the single “Limits” presaged the arrival of her “Call Me By My Name” EP.
The native of Bath, Maine, released the hypnotic single “Golden” last week; it’s co-written and produced by her brother and out via Lean-To Records, the label helmed by Kyle McCammon of LEAN.
“Golden” offers a beguiling slab of downtempo pop. Maybe it’s the whispered chorus. Maybe it’s the soulful backing vocals. Maybe it’s that we think it sounds like Haim doing the Sneaker Pimps.
“‘Golden’ allowed me to explore parts of myself I usually keep hidden,” Hurd says of the track. “I have often felt ashamed and perplexed by my continued struggles with confidence, identity and sexuality … thinking, I should have figured this all out by now. Music has given me a space to ask questions and explore what I’ve packed away, so deep within. … I hope this tune inspires you to move your bones while embracing the powerful and mysterious creature you’ve always been.”
