Crowded House

■ New Zealand songsmith Neil Finn has buoyed the spirits of his audience around the world from a distance since the Covid-19 lockdown grounded continuing tour plans as a part of Fleetwood Mac. He and wife Sharon hunkered down for several months at their eldest son Liam’s Los Angeles home, broadcasting from his Fangradio Mixlr channel near daily at the start to twice weekly to eventually weekly broadcasts, alternating between solo and family performances (and even remote full band performances), playing everything from full Crowded House albums, to his solo work to new demos. With enough material for a new album, and nursing a brief cold, he took leave in June and beamed back on in September from the family home in Auckland, New Zealand (where SARS-coV2 infection rates have remained controlled to single or double digits since April this year).

Last month, Crowded House (current formation: Neil, sons Liam and Elroy, original bassist Nick Seymour and longtime band producer Mitchell Froom) released their first single in over a decade, “Whatever You Want.” Check out their live performance of the song from this Thursday:

And check out the clever video released in late October, directed by filmmaker Nina Ljeti, frontwoman of Kills Birds, and starring Mac DeMarco:
