Quickly after Rochelle Jordan‘s announcement last week that she signed to TOKiMONSTA’s label, Young Art Records, the singer released a hypnotic new single, “Got Em.”

Produced by Machinedrum and KLSH, the track rekindles the memory of dancing in a dim nightclub or crowded festival back when having a six-foot distance was unheard of. Jordan channels her upper hand on U.K. house beats, fusing the heavy basslines with her shimmery, soulful harmonies.

“‘Got Em’ is my song of affirmation,” the artist says. “I wrote it in 2017, a time where I had an intense epiphany about life. I started to become much more spiritually aware than I have ever been before. All the repetition in this song is my way of being able to meditate on these words of encouragement and confidence, affirm and push through.”

Born in London and reared in Toronto, Jordan was exposed to U.K. funky house and garage from her older brother, as well as Jamaican reggae, dancehall and Northern soul from her father. She later debuted her musical chops in 2011 with “Rojo,” an 11-track record studded with sensual and brooding R&B.

She has since released three albums and a smattering of singles, with her last project, “1021,” dating back to 2014.
