Ears Wide Open: Douglas

The first single from Douglas doesn’t so much rock as it does streak across the night sky, as if on a vain mission to find some redeeming value in the “shell of a man” who’s been feeding her lies.
The techno-shoegaze takedown “Cigarettes” is the first sampling from “Ashes,” the solo debut album from Amy Douglas White, a singer-songwriter-keyboardist with a long list of bona fides.
Reared in Spain by American parents, White has performed with M83 (as a backing vocalist on “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming”) and West Indian Girl and been a member of the dark electro acts Linus & Amy and the Controversy.
Douglas’ album balances layered, harder-driving alt-rockers with strikingly cinematic dream-pop (strings and all). On “Cigarettes,” she’s assisted by guitarist Jonathan Bates (Big Black Delta), bassist Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, Nine Inch Nails, et al) and drummer Kris Persson (Gunnar Gehl).
The album is out April 2nd via Gentle Beast Productions.
