Leave it to L.A. post-punk trio Dancing Tongues to make love sound dangerous.

“Laws of Attraction” is the new single from Alex Lavayen, Kevin Modry and Luke Hanna, who record with Jonny Bell at Jazzcat Studios and are known for their explosive live shows (insert exclamation about how much you/we miss them). The trio decided to acknowledge everybody’s favorite Hallmark holiday with a song whose guitar riffs feel like arrows to the heart.

“‘Laws of Attraction’ is a song about the femme fatale,” the band says. “It is a fictitious story about the love games two people are playing. Although the specific relationship is imaginary, it is a blunt and honest hot take on the vulnerabilities love and lust can expose, and how people are so quick to manipulate their counterparts when they recognize that they can. Whether the manipulation is malicious or playful, the uneasiness it causes always feels like a crime.”

The band’s first new music since 2019, the song hits streaming services on Valentine’s Day, like a box of chocolates that aren’t really chocolates.
