Composer, multi-instrumentalist and podcast host Joe Wong released his ambitious solo debut “Nite Creatures” last year and followed up by issuing a deluxe edition last week.

And while full-ensemble music videos in the age of COVID-19 are dicey propositions — or often end up looking like Zoom meetings — director Sam Macon went to great lengths in creating the visuals for the songs “Minor” and “Nuclear Rainbow,” which appear back-to-back on the album. Working last spring in both L.A. (where Travis Auclair did the filming) and Washington, D.C. (Brendan Canty), the song’s players are captured through the windows of their respective residences. It’s a poignant commentary on the pandemic without trying to be.

“We managed to bring together a diverse group of musicians to create a piece that feels truly collaborative at a time when we are profoundly physically isolated,” Macon says. “Though this is not a quarantine-themed video, we made the decision to fold the restrictions and limitations into the aesthetic concept of the video to make something that feels current, timeless and a bit apocalyptic.”

Featured in the video are Mary Lattimore, Mary Timony, Steven McDonald, Anna Waronker, Paul Cartwright, Amy Domingues, Marta Horner, John Matchez, Kerena Peacock and Aaron Smith, along with Wong.
