Rialto soul brothers Brainstory return this week with “Bye Bye,” a new neo-vintage slow and steady psych-rocker to sway to in the breeze. It’s the B-side pairing to “Seasons,” their next single to be released on 7-inch vinyl on Feb. 26 via Big Crown Records.

The new tune is a rueful yearning to be noticed by a passing object of affection. Suspended chords embody the feeling of being left to hang dry like a forgotten sock on the clothesline. The echoes of  “Bye Bye” in the chorus are that sad acceptance of reality that desire is just going to stay a romantic notion and unreachable except in fantasy. Its most concrete existence is in the writing of the song, as “These empty spaces that lie deep in my heart / blend into melodies when we’re apart.”

For now, the song is only released digitally, so set your vinyl players to 45 rpm in time to finally hold the real-life grooves in your hands.
