And now for some new music from Joni of Laurel Canyon …

Wait, what?

Yes, it’s true. Twenty-six-year-old Joni Fatora, who works mononymously, today releases her new EP “Orchid Room,” conceived in a little green house in the hills of Laurel Canyon. Fatora, the daughter of a submariner who was reared on three continents and has worked professionally in London and Brooklyn, kicked off the L.A. phase of her career in 2015 with the single “Blueless Bird.” She previously had toiled as a co-writer for major pop singers and as a featured vocalist for various electronic artists.

You’re as likely to find nods to ’60s Tropicália (“Lost In Space”) as you are modern indie-rock (“IDKU”), bedroom dance-pop (“Never Going Back”) and dream-pop (“Orange”) on Joni’s EP. Her delicate but precise vocals have a fireside intimacy, and in the hazy, nostalgic production she paints evocative portraits of past lives, prickly personal battles and relationships. Pull up a chair.

Joni will be performing songs from “Orchid Room” from London on a live-stream scheduled for today at noon Pacific time.
