Garbage’s debut album celebrates its silver anniversary this August, but there is still work to be done.

The long-running rockers today announced that their seventh album, “No Gods No Masters,” would be out June 11. With the news came the album’s lead track, “The Men Who Rule the World,” a searing protest song that’s accompanied by a mixed-media video from Chilean filmmaker and visual artist Javi.MiAmor.

“This is our seventh record, the significant numerology of which affected the DNA of its content: the seven virtues, the seven sorrows and the seven deadly sins,” frontwoman Shirley Manson says. “It was our way of trying to make sense of how fucking nuts the world is and the astounding chaos we find ourselves in. It’s the record we felt that we had to make at this time.”

The album, produced by long-time collaborator Billy Bush, was begun at a band retreat in Palm Springs during the summer of 2018. The quartet — Manson along with Duke Erikson, Steve Marker and Butch Vig — finished the record later in L.A.

A deluxe CD/digital version of the album will feature a mix of covers and Garbage rarities featuring some guest vocalists, including Screaming Females, Brody Dalle, Brian Aubert of Silversun Pickups and John Doe and Exene Cervenka of X.
