Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Lukas Frank introduced his debut album as Storefront Church last fall with the strikingly cinematic track “The Gift,” which, yes, found a home in the Netflix series “The Queen’s Gambit.”
This week shed more light on the album: “As We Pass” will be out May 21 via Sargent House as the project’s follow-up to 2017’s stunning “Storefront Church” EP. “As We Pass” will feature one track from the EP, “Lying to Actors,” a mini-opus among the EP’s many.
And the album will start with “After the Alphabets,” a cerebral, 4 1/2-minute soundscape with a bass line whose sole purpose (it seems) is to lead you down some dark path toward a deep secret. It’s total-immersion art-rock worthy of repeat visits, not to mention much contemplation over the lyrics.
