Here at the intersection of Americana, dream-pop and relationship ennui awaits singer-songwriter Sam Valdez, basking in warm reverb and waiting for the stoplight to turn green.
It’s about to: The L.A.-based native of Las Vegas this week released her first single of 2021, “Palms Casino,” and with it revealed that her debut album “Take Care” will be out May 7 via B3SCI Records.
The new song is another of Valdez’s typically expansive compositions, the kind you’d imagine having on repeat as you drive through the desert chasing the horizon. It’s about “letting yourself act on impulse and just owning the consequences,” she says. “It’s about wanting to evolve and find excitement without chaos, but knowing it’s okay to mess up and explore your curiosities, too.”
Valdez debuted in 2017 and released her first EP, “Mirage,” the following summer.
