Bright World is the solo vehicle for the music of Evan Williams, whose new single is all about how there’s really no such thing as a solo vehicle.

Williams, a Canadian actor, visual artist and activist, released “The Bright World” EP last year and is currently working on his first full-length, “Cloud Parade.” But the clouds lift, metaphorically anyhow, in the video for his new single “I’m Not Alone,” which is set against the crippling isolation many felt during the COVID-19 pandemic — and, for that matter, many feel on a day-to-day basis in a tech-obsessed world.

“This song is a rallying cry,” he says. “You are not alone. We form a human chain. We recognize each other through the openness of our hearts. And we are at our best with arms outstretched, interdependent and free to express the love that naturally begs to flow. Even when we forget. Our roots reach into deep belonging and mingle there. This song is for the bottom of your heart and the top of your lungs. The truth rings. You are not alone.”

Known for his acting roles in “Versailles,” MTV’s “Awkward” and the feature film “Midnight at the Magnolia,” Williams stars as himself — and, in fact, virtually the whole cast — in the self-directed video. It’s a series of I-see-what-you-did-there moments that add up to 4 1/2 minutes of feel-good, capped by flashes of the smiling faces of friends (and the backup singers) at the denouement.

The song officially releases on Friday
