As Southern California slowly rebounds from the COVID-19 lockdown, KCRW Summer Nights, the radio outlet’s annual series of free concerts, returns in a scaled-back way later this month.
KCRW today announced five free, all-ages shows at outdoor venues for Summer Nights’ 11th season — a far cry from recent years when the series encompassed more than 20 dates at as many as eight venues. But it’s a start.
The shows include both live performances and DJ nights, highlighted by September’s headlining gig by Madame Gandhi at Grand Performances at California Plaza.
Here’s the schedule — RSVP here:
July
30: KCRW DJs Aaron Byrd and Novena Carmel at the California African American Museum (7 p.m.)
August
14: James Francies and KCRW DJ LeRoy Downs at One Colorado in Pasadena (7:30 p.m.)
21: Nation of Language and KCRW DJ Travis Holcombe at One Colorado in Pasadena (7:30 p.m.)
