There are dudes in a good ol’ mosh pit in director Mitch deQuilettes’s video for the M.A.G.S. single “Wait.” And people obsessing over plants. And a couple (Marcella Lewis and Aleks Perez) engaging in modern dance. And, in the middle of it all, the M.A.G.S. man himself, Elliott Douglas.

Like the entirety of his new album, “Say Things That Matter,” it’s a wild ride. No matter what genre he skips to — and here you’ll find agitated garage-rock like this Strokesy single, as well as sensual pop, nods to ’90s alternative radio, experimental folk and even touches of strident metal — M.A.G.S. is singing about making real connections.

Six years ago and three time zones away, the Buffalo, N.Y.-bred Douglas released his debut EP and followed up with a full-length two years later. They only hinted at the breadth the artist, now based in L.A., has achieved on the new album. “I’ve never been more ready for anything in my life,” he says of the new collection. “‘Say Things That Matter’ is the culmination of everything I’ve learned so far about being a human and how we’re all connected.”

It sounds like it.
