Substance, the festival that debuted in 2019 playing to darkwave, EBM, post-punk, industrial and goth tastes, returns to downtown L.A. this November, bigger and bolder, and headlined by Nitzer Ebb, Chelsea Wolfe and HEALTH.

The three-night affair will bring 48 artists to the Belasco Theatre on Nov. 26-28. The venue will be divided into three performance spaces — the theater, the ballroom and the downstairs bar — for what promoters are calling a “multi-sensory event steeped in visual and sonic exploration.”

Curated by Liz Garo (ex-Spaceland Presents) and Brian Tarney (of promoters Restless Nites), the festival will also feature the likes of Ceremony, Lingua Ignota, Squid, SALEM, Emma Ruth Rundle, Kid Congo and Plague Vendor. Gary Numan headlined the inaugural Substance in 2019.

In the festival announcement, promoters noted: “Substance is an event built around a community that values mutual respect, general safety, diversity and acceptance. Hate speech, harassment, bullying and sexual misconduct will not be tolerated. Substance will always be a safe place for the audience and performers. Proof of vaccination will be required at the door for entrance.”

Tickets go on sale at 11 a.m. today, with three-day passes and single-day passes (Nov. 26, Nov. 27, Nov. 28) available, with VIP options.
