Jacklen Ro

Jacklen Ro make no-heartstrings-untugged indie-pop, their unabashedly emotional tunes reflecting exactly where they are in their young lives: The duo of Jackie Giroux and Caelen Perkins have gone from high school straight into pandemic and come out on the other side as a fully formed band, with the addition Karly Low on bass and Caden Barlett on drums.

Along the way, they released their first EP for Lolipop Records, “Til There Was You.” Its six songs of exuberance came out this past spring, followed in August by the single “Forget It All,” the first of three new songs made with Iggy Gonzalez at Lolipop Records’ Savannah Studios in Boyle Heights.

The next, out this week, is “Oh It’s So Sad,” a song that ponders the question, “What if we died?” It’s a metaphorical take on the life cycle of a relationship as the two come back to life to reunite.

The video, directed by Caitlyn Phu, was filmed in Prescott, Ariz., when the band was on their way to play a memorial services for a classmate who passed prior to COVID.
