The Wrecks’ first single of 2022, “Lone Survivor,” is a breakup bounceback track that arrived just in time for Valentine’s Day. The Los Angeles rock quartet dropped the romantic rebound bop last Friday, and it’s their most pop-leaning effort yet, pairing singer/producer Nick Anderson’s slick vocals with catchy melodies and tight instrumentation. “If I knew what I know / I’d never let you get close,” Anderson sings in the tune. Later, he turns up the rage: “I’m a reckless lone survivor / fuck your exes / fuck your father / I’m the sum of your desires / say I’m not.”
“‘Lone Survivor’ is a testament to feeling empowered by your independence in the aftermath of a breakup,” Anderson says. “The energy of this song was swimming through my veins for a few days before writing it. So when the time came for me to get in the booth and write the melody and lyrics, a lot of it came out right away.”
The Wrecks — rounded out by bassist Aaron Kelley, guitarist Nick Schmidt and drummer Billy Nalley — released their debut album, “Infinitely Ordinary,” and an EP, “Static,” in 2020. Since then, they’ve shared a handful of singles, plus a Jam in the Van session.
