Jackson Phillips, the Los Angeles indie-rocker, singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist better known by the stage name Day Wave, writes guitar-pop hits. And his newest single, “Pastlife,” does not disappoint.

It’s the title track off the new Day Wave album, out June 24 via PIAS Recordings, and it sets the tone for what to expect from the mostly-solo artist’s first full-length record in five years.

“I think of ‘Pastlife’ as the thesis statement for this record, because the overall theme is reminiscing on past chapters in my life,” Phillips says. “I have so many eras from my past that I miss, and so many friends left behind in those times. I wonder if they ever think of those times the way I do.”

“Pastlife,” like most Day Wave tunes, has an undeniable hook. Phillips sings in the chorus, “I’m missin’ you,” and you can’t help but sing along. In the video, directed, edited and filmed by Nikoli Partiyeli, we see Phillips bicycling through a green, lush park, somewhere in suburban America. Cut to Phillips playing every instrument, singing and yearning for the return of an old friend.

Singles “Where Do You Go” and “Before We Know”, both released in 2021 will also be featured on “Pastlife.”
