Why do aliens always seem to land in the desert? This we wonder as the colorful bunch of extraterrestrials put on a psych-rock clinic in the video for Hooveriii’s “See.” Directed by Owen Summers and Nikki Houston and filmed on 16mm at the Trona Pinnacles (fun fact: where Lady Gaga shot her “Stupid Love” video), “See” introduces the sixth Hooveriii album, “A Round of Applause,” out July 29.

The album gets it title from a song by the legendary Roky Erickson, “Click Your Fingers Applauding the Play.” Says band founder Bert Hoover: “That’s too much of a mouthful. My title, ‘A Round of Applause,’ just came one day, and we were like, ‘Yo, that sounds like a Gentle Giant record.’”

The single is a guitar-tastic gallop for about 2 1/2 minutes before breaking into a head-spinning jam. “‘See’ is about trying not to take life for granted. Some things are easier said than done,” says Hoover, joined the band by Gabe Flores, Kaz Mirblouk, Hames Novick and Owen Barrett “It’s our first song to feature Anna Wallace singing along with us and it came together rather seamlessly. It was a pretty barebones jangle jam until the band filled it with ear candy.”
