Laufey Lín Jónsdottír, who simply goes by her first name Laufey, is not like most 23-year-olds. The L.A.-based modern jazz singer and multi-instrumentalist is breaking down the barriers between classical music and pop. The union of these styles is apparent in her latest single, “Fragile.”

Boasting bossa nova guitars and gentle vocal melodies, “Fragile” showcases Laufey’s unique style and musicianship at its core. It’s a tune that feels incredibly sophisticated and mature, coming from someone so young.

It’s the second single from her debut album, “Everything I Know About Love,” which is due out on Aug. 26 via AWAL Recordings. The 12-track album also features the title track, which was released earlier this year along with a music video directed by Tess Lafia.

Laufey may be L.A.-based now, but she grew up traveling between Washington D.C., Iceland and China. Having two professional musician parents played a crucial role in Laufey’s music career. By 15, she was collaborating with Iceland’s Symphony Orchestra and it wasn’t too long after that she was performing with London’s Philharmonia Orchestra.

Along with the release of “Fragile” and the announcement of her debut album, Laufey is kicking off an impressive tour across North America and Europe this fall — almost all of it (including two L.A. dates) is sold out.
