Three flavors of pop as we catch up with recent releases from Lindsey Rose Black, Eyedress and Almost Monday …

LINDSEY ROSE BLACK, “Money Fish”

The follow-up to “Clutch” and “Violet,” Lindsey Rose Black’s languorous new single “Money Fish” mixes dreamy and melancholy in a Tori Amos kind of way. Produced by John Velasquez (Zella Day) and Matthew Frazier (Local Natives) and the latest from her EP, “Subterra” (out in August), it’s a “stream-of-consciousness song that came together in minutes with a group of incredibly talented friends,” she says. “I’d just come off writing my last single, ‘Violet,’ which is so bare and raw, and really wanted to make a happy summer song but, alas, I’m an emo freak at heart. The lyrics inevitably took a dark turn and center on being high, depressed, and grieving … I do love that ‘Money Fish,’ like most pop I’m drawn to, can tackle a challenging subject while still being surrounded by this very sunny, warm sonic landscape.”

EYEDRESS, “Still in Love”

The latest single from L.A.-based Filipino bedroom popster Idris Vicuña sounds like something that’s been lifted off a sun-baked cassette tape from 1984. Which is to say that “Still in Love” is all reverb and good vibes. “It’s for all the lover boys and lover girls,” Eyedress says of the follow-up to “Smoke & Mirrors” and “House of Cards” and the third single he has released since his first appearance at Coachella.

ALMOST MONDAY, “Sun Keeps On Shining”

Cue the summertime bounce: San Diego-bred trio Almost Monday — Dawson Daugherty, Cole Clisby and Luke Fabry — keep rolling out the feel-good (see also: “Sunburn”) and can’t seem to look any further than good ol’ Sol for inspiration. Since debuting in 2020, the trio has released about an album’s worth of songs, and like “Sun Keeps On Shining,” virtually all of them should come with a tube of sunscreen.
