Reckling makes full-speed-ahead punk rock with blaring guitars and biting lyrics, the latter delivered by band leader Kelsey Reckling with a thousand-yard stare and deadpan vocals. At proper volume, the L.A. quartet’s self-titled debut album, released in 2018, left a mark: scathing, scuzzy and … well, if you’ve been around punk rock, you know the M.O.

The singer-guitarist undergoes a lobotomy in director Ambar Navarro’s winking video for “In My Hair,” the quartet’s hard-and-fast new single. The visual cuts between Reckling shredding through the song with bandmates Erik Jimenez, Joey Mullen and Max Kuehn and the hospital, where a doctor (Brandon Schwartzel, who is Kuehn’s bandmate in FIDLAR) and a nurse (Taylor Ramirez) get busy with the frontwoman’s brain.

“In My Hair” is the first taste of Reckling’s forthcoming EP, “Human Nature,” coming out Aug. 12. Kelsey Reckling says of the single, which was engineered and mixed by Danny Nogueiras (NO WIN): “This song is a true story about obsessive thinking and the back and forth of indecisive feelings, where you’re trying not to let emotion override rationality, and you end up seeking out answers from a psychic.”
