Video: The Brevet, ‘Safe’

The Brevet

Big statements are the Brevet’s bread and butter. Building on a catalog that includes two albums and assorted EPs and singles, the Orange County trio deliver outsized Americana-rock in husky-voiced majesty and unimpeachable sincerity.

The band released their latest EP, “Paris” (see “Shapeshifter”), in 2020, a few months after the pandemic locked everyone down. They’ve come back strong this summer, releasing three singles from an album they plan to release early next year.

“Safe” is the latest, co-written by the band’s frontman, Aric Chase Damm, and Rob Thomas (Matchbox Twenty). As testimonies of devotion go, this one might as well be chiseled in stone. The video takes a predictable look at good times and bad, but what could be more stolid than someone who tells you: “Whatever comes our way, comes our way, comes our way / I wont hesitate to keep you safe.”
