After a two-year COVID-induced hiatus, the Wild Honey Foundation will return to Glendale’s Alex Theatre on Nov. 5 for their annual benefit, this year celebrating the 50th anniversary of “#1 Record,” the debut album by power-pop progenitors Big Star.
The show, in support of the Autism Healthcare Cooperative, will be headlined by Big Star’s drummer (and Wild Honey regular) Jody Stephens. He’ll be leading a band featuring Mike Mills (R.E.M), Chris Stamey, Skylar Gudasz, Brett Harris, Django Haskins, Charles Cleaver, Pat Sansone (Wilco), Audley Freed and special guests Susanna Hoffs (The Bangles), Jon Auer (The Posies), Luther Russell, Chris Price and the Lemon Twigs.
They’ll perform “#1 Record” in its entirety — which turned 50 years old this year — as well as selections from Big Star’s subsequent albums “Radio City” and “Third” (aka “Sister Lovers”), in addition to songs from Big Star co-founder Chris Bell’s solo recordings.
Big Star’s “Third” was the centerpiece of the Wild Honey Foundation’s 2016 concert.
Past Wild Honey benefits have featured music by the Band, the Kinks, Lovin’ Spoonful and Buffalo Springfield.
