For a decade, Alice Sandahl has plied her trade in La Luz, beloved purveyors of girl-group-inspired surf music and garage rock. Sandahl’s forthcoming solo album, “Bright & Blue,” is not that.
Before La Luz rose to prominence in Seattle, Sandahl was a jazz voice student. And her album resides in the universe of ’60s and ’70s pop that was influenced by jazz greats. On the lead single, “Character,” Sandahl’s honeyed vocals slither leisurely over warm keys and strings. It’s the stuff of introspective nights in smoky lounges.
“Bright & Blue,” produced and engineered by Riley Geare, is out Friday, with Sandahl playing a host of local shows between now and the end of the year.
