Our Dept. of Rock checks in with three new singles of varying styles: Check out the latest from Plague Vendor, the Brevet and Widows Gold …
PLAGUE VENDOR, “Run”
Three-plus years since their last album for Epitaph, SoCal punk standouts Plague Vendor find themselves without a label and in full DIY mode. On their new single, “Run,” though, they sound (typically) like an unstoppable force, with a vicious groove clearing the way for Brandon Blaine’s urgent vocals. They’ll be playing a couple live dates in Northern California in December supporting Social Distortion but we suspect some hometown moshpits aren’t too far off.
THE BREVET, “Will You Wait”
O.C. trio the Brevet are back with another brawny anthem: “Will You Wait,” the follow-up to their November single, “Safe,” was co-written by Better Than Ezra’s Kevin Griffin. “I battle with depression and sometimes while on the road that can take a toll on me,” says Aric Damm, frontman of the Brevet. “This song deals with a lot of the things I feel at times being an artist: doubt, imposter syndrome, comparisons … none of which get you far or help you out of the dark places your mind lets you go. The song is also about my awareness of that and trying to get back to my ‘normal’ self for my wife and the life we live together.” The song is from their forthcoming release, “Wanderers” (details to come).
WIDOWS GOLD, “Holy Rollers”
The follow-up to singles such as “Inside” and “Little By Little,” “Holy Rollers” is the latest single from Widows Gold’s debut album, “Love Drops,” out Jan. 27. The O.C. quartet — Ben Sauer, Madeline Star, Ian Zamora and Carson Ford — calls out all fakers in this one, punctuating it with some stinging guitars.
