Like her ’90s alt-rock forebears, Blondshell’s songs build like fires. There’s a gentle flicker of melody, a smoky voice singing words that singe, then a four-alarm conflagration of emotion and guitar.

“Veronica Mars,” the fourth song Sabrina Teitelbaum has released as Blondshell, plays the soft-loud dynamic to the hilt, going from zero to wall of sound in just two minutes. It’s the first song that the singer-songwriter — who debuted in June with “Olympus” — is releasing as a new signee to Partisan Records.

“I was obsessed with the show ‘Veronica Mars’ as a kid and I was revisiting it around the time I wrote this song,” Teitelbaum says. “I wanted to sing about that childhood era when I was being exposed to a lot more than I was comfortable with. ‘Gimme shelter’ refers to the song, but I’m also saying please give me shelter from graphic TV and film, from New York City, overwhelming lyrics, etc. I think the song is just about having my boundaries crossed and the effects of those transgressions (for example, growing up to think men are hot if they’re assholes).”

Like the New York City native’s previous singles, “Veronica Mars” was produced by Yves Rothman, once of the sibling rock band Living Things, who has worked in the studio with the likes of Miya Folick, Kills Birds, Girlpool, Aly & AJ, Nasty Cherry and, most recently, Stella Rose (Dave Gahan’s daughter, who just released her second single).
