We used to think that it wasn’t really summer until Poolside released a new single. Starting with “Pacific Standard Time” (and the memorable cover of “Harvest Moon”) in 2012, Poolside was a reliable purveyor of pastel chillwave disco-ing out to an onshore breeze.

Three albums and a scad of mixtapes, EPs, singles, reimagined versions and remixes later, Poolside — now the solo project of Jeffrey Paradise — has signed to the Ninja Tune imprint Counter Records and released the new song “Each Night,” a collaboration with Australian pop act Mazy. It’s typically lush and airy, hallmarks of Paradie’s work, but a little bit more, well, “Poolside goes to outer space.”

“To me ‘Each Night’ feels fresh, new, exciting and edgy, while also sounding totally familiar,” Paradise says. “The influences at play feel like an amalgamation of all of the music I’ve listened to, played and internalized over my many years of loving music. It’s like your favorite song you’ve never heard before, with glimmers of so many styles ranging from shoegaze to Madchester to prog rock to dance to dub all making appearances throughout.”

Adds Mazy: “‘Each Night’ was written during the ending stages of a relationship. I was always working late and didn’t own a car, so I found myself running home to her through the empty streets in the dead of night. It is a song about realizing that something is coming to an end, but holding on to the joy and beauty of the way it was, not yet ready to let go.”

The video for the song is directed by Nathan Castiel and stars Tessa Binder and Jackie Green.
