Blake Mills, whose reflective, complex solo albums have ranked as marvels of mellow, has announced the July 14 arrival of his fifth solo album, “Jelly Road.”

Mills, the producer, singer-songwriter, composer and in-demand session guitarist with a Grammy win and two Grammy nominations to his credit, crafted the album with Vermont-based Chris Weisman, a reclusive songwriter and jazz man. Mills had learned about Weisman through Pino Palladino, with whom Mills collaborated on the 2021 album, “Notes With Attachments.”

Mills sought out Weisman first to collaborate on music for the Amazon Prime series “Daisy Jones and the Six.” The songs for “Jelly Road” rolled out after that, and were recorded with Mills longtime cohort Joseph Lorge at Sunset Sound Studios.

“Skeleton Is Walking” is the album’s first single. It’s one of those songs that stills the outside world for six minutes, even as it builds to a triumphant guitar solo. Mighty tasty, this first bit of “Jelly Road.”

Leading up to the album’s release, the Blake Mills Featuring Chris Weisman Tour will make two stops in southern California.
