Desert Daze, the eclectic festival that bounced back from the pandemic in strong fashion last year, has hit a bump in the road. Festival organizers announced that the 2023 event has been canceled, while promising to return in 2024.

From its beginnings as a scrappy, DIY, Coachella-adjacent affair, Desert Daze has grown into a multi-stage event, expensive to mount though still retaining its “boutique” charm. It’s been held since 2018 at at Moreno Beach in Lake Perris State Recreation Area near Moreno Valley.

Early-bird tickets had gone on sale for the 2023 festival last fall. In Thursday’s announcement, organizers said they would be emailing buyers with an option to roll over those passes to 2024 (Oct. 10-13) or to request a refund.

The festival also announced a 10-show series christened Daze in the City, featuring the likes of Blonde Redhead, the Black Angels, the Dandy Warhols, Les Claypool and the Brian Jonestown Massacre, among others.

Here’s the full text of the announcement:

After careful thought and consideration, we have decided to take a year off from the event at Lake Perris. We’ll be taking the extra time to ensure we deliver an experience that surpasses expectations for many years to come.

Desert Daze will return to Lake Perris, Oct. 10-13, 2024.

If you purchased presale passes for 2023, check your inbox/spam for instructions on how roll over your passes to 2024 or request a refund. If you still have questions, please email us at info@desertdaze.org.

This fall, we will celebrate the Desert Daze community with Daze in the City: a concert odyssey from Oct. 10-15, featuring some of our favorite music and visual artists performing at multiple venues across Southern California, in homage to the marathon of the first Desert Daze which ran 11 days long. While this will be a different one-off experience in the expanding history of Desert Daze, we’re excited to see you this fall.

Most of the shows are on sale now. Use the code CITY for 10/13 and 10/14.

If you’re coming from out of town or just want to make a trip of it, hotel packages are available in LA, Riverside, and other select locations.
