By “For Anyone and You,” what Mo Dotti really means, of course, is for-anyone-and-you-and-especially-you-in-the-vintage-MBV-tee-who-can’t-name-one-MBV-song.
The L.A noise-pop quartet dials up seismic waves of guitar on their new single, which flirts with homage while giving fans of shoegaze a reason to come the party: volume and texture, physicality and beauty. “For Anyone and You,” which arrived today with the B-side “Late August Early September” (a more experimental track, nuanced in a different manner), is gorgeous the way major weather events are.
The band — singer-guitarist Gina Negrini, guitarist Guy Valdez, bassist Greg Shilton and drummer Andrew Mackelvie — has released two EPs, 2020’s “Blurring” and last year’s “Guided Imagery.” The two new tracks find Mackelvie at the production helm; none other than Ride’s Mark Gardener is credited with the mastering.
Fans of My Bloody Valentine, Pale Saints, Catherine Wheel, Lush, Asobi Seksu … unite.
