JOHN-ROBERT, “Sweet Child”
John-Robert Rimel (just John-Robert when he’s releasing music) arrived in L.A. from small-town Virginia as a teenager, boasting some grownup songwriting skills. A couple of EPs, a handful of singles and several million streams later, he’s 23 and planning to release a new EP, “Garden Snake,” on Dec. 8 via Ricky Reed’s Nice Life Recording Co. “Sweet Child” is a wonderfully unfussy classic rocker that follows up his retro-modern crooner “Waistbin,” released this spring. He describes “Sweet Child” as “post-breakup sentiments, but performed at a house show,” adding “I was failing to give new relationships a chance because it didn’t look exactly like my previous one. I want people to dance while still being able to confess that I was having a hard time moving on.” John-Robert plays Dec. 8 at Genghis Cohen.
SAINT MOTEL, “Slowly Spilling Out”
Fresh off their The Awards Show tour stops in L.A., Saint Motel return with the ornate “Slowly Spilling Out,” the quartet’s third single this year, following “Everyone’s a Guru Now” and “Fine Wine.” Of the new track, frontman A/J Jackson says, “‘Slowly Spilling Out’ [is] a prayer whispered in the dark, a hope that even the deepest wounds can find their solace. We’re all reaching for that trigger, but in the end, love’s the only bullet worth firing. And when it hits you, and when it finally breaks through, it will flow out of you like a waterfall. Pain, it lingers, sure, but sometimes letting go is the only way to hold on to what’s left.” They’ve announced a spring leg of The Awards Show at U.S. venues mostly in the South and Midwest.
BAD SUNS, “Living or Dying”
With the release of “Living or Dying,” Bad Suns have announced that they will release a six-song EP, “Infinite Joy,” on Nov. 17. It’ll include two other singles released this fall, “Astral Plans” and “The One I Used to Love.” Frontman Christo Bowman is in unfettered ardor on all three. “The songs on ‘Infinite Joy’ reflect an oceanic scope of emotions which colored the last year of my life,” Bowman says. “In October of 2022 I got clean after a decade spent battling with alcohol abuse. In the direct aftermath, it was like experiencing an entire 10 years’ worth of growth, in a matter of months. Growth doesn’t occur independent of pain, sorrow, joy — every emotion imaginable. I had to go through all of it, and resist none of it. It’s a journey I will be on for the rest of my life.” Bad Suns play the Roxy on Nov. 13 and the House of Blues Anaheim on Nov. 17.
PR0FILES, “L.I.M.E.”
Synth-pop duo Pr0files (Daniel Sternbaum and Lauren Pardini) sip from a clear ’80s cocktail with “L.I.M.E.,” which stands for Love In My Eyes. The duo have released only one single per year since 2021, but they reliably craft tunes that seem lifted from ’80s romance flicks.
