If you’re not busy bouncing to along to the elastic synths in Sophie and the Bom Boms’ new single, you’ll be comforted to know that, after all these years, “Big Girls” still ain’t gonna cry. That affirmation is the latest from Sophie Stern, the songwriter who originally signed to Dr. Luke’s camp and set off on her own about two years ago. She has released a trickle of feisty singles and her “Shmixtape” since, with her bright vocals calling out over playful beats. For her next act, the new year will bring a Sophie and the Bom Boms EP, made in collaboration with two producers, David Elevator (aka David Greenbaum, a Grammy winner on Beck’s “Morning Phase,” among other credits) and Dan Dare (whose credits include Marina and the Diamonds, Charlie XCX and M.I.A.). There’s always a vibrant sprinkling of pluck in Stern’s pop confections, and “Big Girls” is no different. It’s grown-up fun.
