Buzz Bands LA’s 10 picks of the week

• Monday: SWIMM, whose “Beverly Hells” was one of our favorite EPs of the year, has new music in store as they kick off their free Monday residency at the Echo.
• Monday: Elvis Presley would have turned turn 81 this week, and a tribute show at the Echoplex sees a host of L.A. luminaries interpreting the songs that made him the King. Most likely to succeed? Paul Bergmann and Isaac Rother, perhaps?
• Tuesday: The new downtown venue Resident gets down to business, hosting Brainstory’s free Tuesday residency. The Vim Dicta and Miss Chief support on opening night.
• Tuesday: We have a feeling “Slopo and the Jackers” is not a real band name. Just sayin’. Grab tickets for the Silverlake Lounge show and thank us later.
• Wednesday: Haunted Summer heads up a big lineup of L.A. bands at the Troubadour.
• Friday/Saturday: If you can score tickets to either Patti Smith show at the Wiltern — the iconic singer and her band are performing “Horses” — you should do so.
• Friday: Happy 18th birthday to The Smell. The celebration show on Friday headlined by Together Pangea is sold out, but maybe you know somebody?
• Saturday: The Outline [see the interview] — featuring members of Grouplove, Milo Greene and Superhumanoids — reunite 10 years after the release of their full-length “You Smash it, We’ll Build Around It.” The play the Troubadour. It’ll be raucous and fun.
• Saturday: If you missed The Blasters on their recent tour, you can catch them at the intimate Cafe NELA for a special show; they’ll be one of five bands playing at a $20-a-head benefit for tour manager Jaime Casillas.
• Saturday: Gonna get pretty psychedelic at the Teragram Ballroom for the Moon Block Party’s Rock ’n’ Roll Circus, with Fever the Ghost, Morgan Delt, Vinyl Williams, JJUUJJUU and HOTT MT.
