L.A.-based New Yorker Cuesta Loeb debuted in September with “My King,” a beautiful thing of plucked strings, dreamy vocals and blissful guitars. Since then, the classically trained singer-songwriter has unveiled two more bursts of celestial rock from her forthcoming EP “Dive.” Reference points here are shoegazing forebears such as My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Mazzy Star and Pale Saints; like them, Loeb employs swirling layers of pretty/heavy guitars to lift skyward her ethereal musings, only she adds flourishes of acoustic ukulele and flute into the mix. Of her latest song “Charlotte Hill,” she says: “It feels like everything has been said a million times before. It’s hard to find a way to express an emotion without using someone else’s words, which inherently diminishes the sentiment. This song is about finding my voice in a sea of echoes.” Indeed, she sighs “I’m just a girl / in a big world” over a sea of guitars. On the EP, which will be out early next year, Loeb’s world includes guitarist/producer Blake Straus, bassist Will Lee, drummer Taylor Dexter and additional contributions from Michael Garner. No live shows on the horizon yet, but maybe in the new year?
