The first Chinatown Summer Nights of 2018 brought a big crowd to Mandarin Plaza on Saturday night, and fans were rewarded with hour after hour of electric sets on a Live Music Stage backdropped by spectacular views of the hills and L.A. State Historic Park.

Gothic Tropic capped the night, slipping a new song into their set as the moon rose east of Mandarin Plaza, and Hawk Percival and Friends jammed so hard the frontwoman lost her glasses. Earlier, Blacktop Queen turned in a hard- and quick-hitting set; Holy Wars, also unveiling a new song, provided some catharsis at sunset; sharp East L.A. quartet the Tracks rocked sublimely in the waning light of the day; Enola Fall, the Tasmanians currently making noise around town, worked up a sweat with their post-punk/pop/alt-rock stew; and the local duo Soft Streak kicked off the evening with some sweet, sun-baked pop.

The next Chinatown Summer Nights is July 28. Stay tuned for a lineup announcement.
